Issue #11 of Punk Magazine came out in the fall of 1977, when punk rock looked like it was sure to be the next big thing. Fortunately, that didn't happen, or else it would all be passé now. Instead, it seems about as current as stuff happening today. (At least it does to me, but then I'm well into old-fogyhood, so what do I know?) The cover story is a history of The Dictators (who had a truly great first album, and then I can't remember what happened to them). Other features are a mini-interview with the Ramones, "An Experience on the Road" by Lenny Kaye of The Patti Smith Group, Mary Harron's interview with John Cale, Chris Stein's interview with Ronnie Toast (hand lettered by Debbie Harry, no less), Lester Bangs on the Dead Boys, a story on a San Francisco band called Crime, a conversation with The Clash, and cartoons, parodies, humor, etc. by John Holmstrom, Robert Romanoli, Bruce Carleton and Steve Taylor.
I would describe the condition of this item is near mint, but it's in better shape than many of the copies that were sold new at the time. There's some yellowing and slight wear at the edges, but the fact is that if you open this up and read it, you will be the first one... it's a virgin copy, never having been sold before. We often shipped copies in worse shape than this one (there wasn't enough furniture in the office, so stacks of issues waiting to go out often doubled as chairs or coffee tables... my cheeseburger platter may have sat on this very issue at one time; fortunately I was neat though, and you'll find no ketchup stains). This copy is part of my personal collection. It has made its way practically untouched by human hands from the Punk office, through various NYC apartments, to my mom's basement in Kansas. Now I'm resurrecting it for sale here.
